Experience the New Rio Grande Renegades Auto Challenge Match

Vision and Goals

The Auto Challenge Match was conceived to boost support, by increasing attendance, at the 3rd Sunday WB match.  Members and guests have the opportunity  to break out their safe queens for a shooting experience not before available at Hayes City.  With laser focus on safety first, the future development of the ACM will be guided by both Wild Bunch and ACM participants.

General Guidance for ACM Shooters

  1.  Pistol Caliber Firearms Only.
  2. All shooters will adhere to Wild Bunch:
    1. Rules of Safety and Conduct.
    2. Stage instructions and course of fire.
    3. Magazine round count.
  3. Wild Bunch and Auto-Challenge matches will be shot simultaneously.  (See scoring below).
  4. Steel targets will be placed at 21' minimum distance to allow jacketed bullets for ACM shooters only.  Lead bullets are encouraged for all steel target engagement.
  5. No banned firearms or NFA restricted firearms are allowed.
  6. 22 to 45 caliber simi-auto pistols, rifles and carbines are welcome.
  7. There are no sight system restriction.
  8. There is no power factor requirement for ACM.
  9. Magazine pouches are recommended but mags can be staged at their firing position.
  10. RGR is a Cowboy Action Shooting Club.  Appropriate western shooting attire is expected.

General ACM Safety Guidance

  1. All firearms must be cleared on the firing line.
  2. All semi-auto firearms must slide lock open on an empty magazine.

Pistols

  1. Semi-auto pistols and revolvers with speed loaders are welcome.
  2. Pistol course of fire is in groups of 7. (Revolvers should have a capacity of 7+
  3. Holstered pistols will be moved from the loading position to the firing line with a magazine in the mag well, empty chamber and made ready to fire on the clock.
  4. For the initial, November 2025  ACM match, pistol course of fire round count is capped at 21.  This requires a minimum of 3 magazines with a capacity of at least 7 cartridges to shoot the ACM Match.  (See scoring below for course of fire options).
  5. Semi-Auto rubber band guns are allowed provided they accept 7 #64 bands.  For scoring purposes:  A miss is not a miss and the shooter must scream "Bang" after every shot for timer accuracy.  Premature "Banging" may result in a spirit of the game penalty.  (Yea....I just wanted to see if anyone was really reading this).

Rifles / Carbines

  1. Rifle / Carbine course of fire is one group of up to 10.
  2. Any long gun with removable magazines may only have a mag in the mag well on the firing line.

Shotguns

  1. SxS, pump and semi-auto shotguns are welcome.
  2. Any long gun with removable magazines may only have a mag in the mag well on the firing line.
  3. Shot gun course of fire is in groups of up to 6.  Potentially from multiple firing positions.
  4. Initially, once the course of fire has begun, semi-auto shotguns may move  with a cartridge in the chamber, but may not be restaged until empty.

Scoring / Course of Fire Options

In order to attract / accommodate as many shooters as possible there will be 3 ACM scoring categories.

One Gun - Pistol is used to shoot both pistol and rifle targets using the round count and shooting positions prescribed in the stage instructions.  This requires an additional 10 round pistol magazine.  Shotgun targets are out of play.

Two Gun - Pistol and rifle are used to shoot targets designated in the stage instructions.  Shotgun targets are out of play.

Three Gun - Pistol Rifle and Shotgun targets are shot as designated in the stage instructions.
